The read-image-reencode lane feeds a 16-bit gradient PNG through the shipped app: pass-through is impossible, the master converts down the opaque JPEG ladder, and the 640,000-pixel request budget re-encodes a downscaled request version — the projection the byte-identical tiny fixtures never exercised.
